MEDEA works to promote freedom, democracy, universal human rights and the rule of law, and is committed to combat Islamism, authoritarianism, anti-Semitism and cultural relativism.
Activities
Currently, MEDEA supports the following campaigns, projects and alliances:
STOP THE BOMB (Campaign for a nuclear-free and democratic Iran)
The campaign against the nuclear and missiles programs of the Islamic Republic of Iran started in 2007 in Austria and is active in a number of European countries today. Current tasks include to campaign against the dangerous nuclear deal, exposing Europe’s courtship of Iran and highlighting Iran’s anti-Semitism and aggressive behavior in the region. STOP THE BOMB calls for effective economic and political sanctions against the Iranian regime and the support of the democratic and secular opposition in Iran and in exile. Prominent supporters incude Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel, author Leon De Winter, Nobel Literature Prize laureate Imre Kertész (1929-2016) as well as numerous politicians from across the spectrum.
Boycott Anti-Semitism (Campaign against BDS)
The campaign “Boycott Anti-Semitism” started in Vienna in 2014 to counter the so-called “Israel Apartheid Week” that had been initiated worldwide by the “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions” movement (BDS). BDS mobilizes against Israel’s right to exist by applying double standards against the Jewish State and runs a global smear campaign that aims at demonizing and delegitimizing Israel. BDS is therefore seen as anti-Semitic. Today “Boycott Anti-Semitism” gathers activists from Jewish, non-Jewish and student organizations and is publicly supported by Austrian Members of Parliament and the Vienna City Council from across the political spectrum.
No Quds-Day in Vienna (Campaign against Iran, Hezbollah and Islamism)
This alliance first came together in Vienna in 2013 in order to counter the so-called “Quds-Day”, the Iranian regime’s annual global hate fest to call for Israel’s annihilation. A broad range of civil society organizations, intellectuals, Members of Parliament and the Vienna City Council have since supported the campaign, which features an annual series of lectures and a rally.
Free Gaza from Hamas (Campaign against Islamist Palestinian terror)
The campaign “Free Gaza from Hamas” started in 2009 in order to draw the attention to the Islamist terror of Hamas against Israeli and Gaza civilians. The campaign highlighted facts that European media usually ignore: that deliberate attacks on Israeli civilians are a war crime, that Hamas has an anti-Semitic agenda calling for the murder of Jews, and that Islamist terror also targets Palestinians who want to live in freedom and coexistence with Israel.
